Philippine Embassy holds a Lecture on Arab History and Culture

The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi held its quarterly activity on Gender and Development last May 20, 2016 headed by H.E. Ambassador Constancio Vingno Jr. and the was also graced with the presence of Madame Yoko Ramos-Vingno. The Managing Director of Ashant Premium Hotel Supplies and Specialized Gifts, Ms. Iman Suguitan, lectured about the Rights and Roles of Women in the Arab World. Ms. Suguitan also discussed about the presence and importance of women during the different eras, both Pre-Islamic and Islamic. The modern-day women in the UAE was also tackled as part of the discussion. As an exampleof a modern Muslim woman, the lecturer sited her own experiences when she started her career in Dubai up to where she is now.

This lecture was basically conducted to give the participants better appreciation of the Muslim culture specially the women practicing the religion. The Embassy staff and personnel were provided points on how to handle issues specially those concerning women. The lecture was very interactive as the participants were very eager to ask questions which may be personal and for others official. POLO sited questions on how to improve the Pre-departure seminar to tailor-fit the orientation for migrating Filipinos based in the Middle-East. DSWD posted questions regarding annulment and family matters. The Embassy staff asked questions on how to manage concerns when Arab employers are present.

The discussion lasted for more than 2 hours and ended with a short gathering to acknowledge the birthday celebrators for April and May.
